Talal Abu-Ghazaleh on “Kalam Business”: 88 Years of Success for the Founder of the Largest Arab Business Empire
05-Aug-2026
For Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Founder and Chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global, true wealth is not measured in assets or real estate, but in knowledge and ideas. As he sees it, his global organization was not built on oil, trade, or industry, but on an early bet on the knowledge economy and intellectual property — decades before these concepts gained traction in the Arab region, back in the 1960s.
During an extensive interview on the "Kalam Business" program, Abu-Ghazaleh reflected on a journey spanning more than eight decades—one that began with a young Palestinian boy displaced from Jaffa in 1948 and culminated in the establishment of one of the Arab world's largest organizations in the fields of intellectual property, accounting, consulting, and technology. Today, the Group comprises more than 140 companies, operates nearly 100 offices worldwide, and employs approximately 2,000 professionals.
A Company That Began in the Trunk of a Car… and Became a Global Leader
After spending several years working for one of Kuwait’s largest accounting firms, Abu-Ghazaleh decided to establish his own company in 1972—despite having almost no capital and no office to work from.
He recalls that his first client meetings were held on the sidewalk, while client files were stored in the trunk of his car. It was only later that a businessman, having learned of his circumstances, offered him office space free of charge.
Reflecting on that period, Abu-Ghazaleh said that the only asset he possessed was an idea. At the time, few people understood why he was determined to establish a company specializing in intellectual property, and many regarded the venture as unconventional with little chance of success. He explained that it took the Group five full years to reach the break-even point and stop incurring losses. During that period, the business kept running without interruption, sustained by bank financing. He emphasized that, from the very first day, his ambition was to build a globally recognized Arab enterprise.
“From the day we founded the company, we declared that the world needed a major Arab company among the ranks of the leading global firms,” he said.
