27-Jul-2011

In cooperation with the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA/ Jordan), Ms. Azza Raslan, member of the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), an independent standard-setting board supported by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), gave a lecture at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Graduate School of Business (TAGSB) on the IAESB’s future activities and work development.

Ms. Raslan introduced IFAC and its role in providing the structures and processes that support the development of standards in the areas of: auditing, assurance, and quality control; public sector accounting; accounting education; and ethics. She next introduced the IAESB, and presented its action plan for 2010 – 2013, in which it seeks to develop a series of high-quality standards to ensure the development and evaluation of the skills of professional accountants
Ms. Raslan indicated that the IAESB is currently revising the International Education Standards (IESs), showing the effects of each standard separately, as well as its implementation and effectiveness. This project seeks also to develop highly consistent accounting standards at the international level.

At the end of the lecture, she stressed that facilitation of the adoption of IESs is continuously underway through developing criteria to measure the accounting education process and the extent of compliance with such measures. In addition, quality control measures are to be put in place for the education process and a specific definition for this process will be developed.

The IAESB develops education standards, guidance, and information papers for use by IFAC member bodies under a shared standard-setting process involving the Public Interest Oversight Board, which oversees the activities of the IAESB, and the IAESB Consultative Advisory Group, which provides public interest input into the development of the standards and guidance. The structures and processes that support the operations of the IAESB are facilitated by IFAC.

IFAC is the global organization for the accountancy profession dedicated to serving the public interest by strengthening the profession and contributing to the development of strong international economies. IFAC is comprised of 164 members and associates in 125 countries and jurisdictions, representing approximately 2.5 million accountants in public practice, education, government service, industry, and commerce.

ASCA/ Jordan seeks to encourage scientific and professional research through developing and facilitating the circulation and exchange of academic and professional knowledge among accountants and other professionals by organizing conferences, meetings, seminars, training courses and academic gatherings.
